ECNL PDP at Trione - US National Team and College Coaches
This past weekend 56 of the best female soccer players from the ECNL’s Northwest Conference came to Trione Field to showcase their skills in front of US National Team and college coaches. The purpose of the weekend was for the girls to train and scrimmage with the best players from the conference’s eight elite clubs (Crossfire, DeAnza, Mustang, MVLA, Pleasanton, San Juan, Santa Rosa United and Washington Premier). The scouts will then pick 10-14 players from the Santa Rosa event and invite them to the ECNL National PDP later this year, where 100 girls from across the country (25 from each birth year 1994-1997) will participate.
Included in the Northwest ECNL PDP were 13 players from Santa Rosa United, including Alison King, Brianne Parsons, Isabelle Lilly, Madison Gonzalez, Samantha Zepponi, Brooklyn Varnadore, Mariah Meza, Hannah Diaz, Jackie Dutton, Katherine Woodrum, Mia Costa, Val Laforge and Darcy McFarlane. This group showed very well and we want to congratulate all of them for being invited and representing our soccer club.
Overall, the scouts were very impressed with the level of play and individual skill being displayed. The girls participated in a two-hour training session Saturday morning and followed it with games on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
A special thanks to Trisha Ziemer, Ralph Montes and Josh Sterling for coaching and training throughout the weekend. Also, thanks to the college coaches, which included St. Mary’s, Cal, Stanford, UC Davis, Arizona, USF, Portland State and more.

SRU Girls U-11 Earthquakes - NorCal State 2 Champions
The team achieved its second consecutive 3rd place NorCal State ranking with a hard fought 2-1 win over Pleasanton Rage to cap a successful season that saw them reach the Championship Match at all of the top 4 tournaments in the State: Cal Cup, Mustang Stampede, Magic Cup, and Placer United Cup.
To get to the coveted NorCal State Cup spot the team had to beat San Juan Sprits on a golden goal in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals against MVLA Avalanche the Earthquakes created some excellent scoring opportunities in a thrilling match, but were astonishingly unable to find the back of the net, and wound up losing on the 7th round of penalty kicks. The disappointment of the PK’s set up their State 2 Final versus Pleasanton Rage where the Earthquakes started the game with a relentless attack. After numerous close calls at the start of the match, including a long bomb off the crossbar, the Earthquakes finally went up 1-0 mid-way through the first half with a tough angled shot into the side netting. Minutes later however, a lone Pleasanton counterattack broke through to level the score.
The Earthquakes continued their attacking ways in the second half, but were still seeking the breakthrough with only minutes left in regulation when the Earthquakes goalkeeper was pulled from goal to launch one of her signature long throw-ins close to the opponent’s goal. Her long throw bounced through the whole defensive line before finding an Earthquake foot near the top of the 6 yard box for a quick redirect inside the far post that gave them the win.
Congratulations Earthquakes!!!
The SRU girls U-11 Aftershocks won the final 2-1 in penalty kicks over Castro Valley in Manteca on Dec 16, 2012
The SRU girls U-11 Aftershocks won the final 2-1 in penalty kicks over Castro Valley.
They started their quest for the cup by defeating ACC Mavericks 3-0 in the quarterfinal round and followed that victory with a 2-1 win in penalty kicks over Bay Oaks.
The final was a very closely contested match with Castro Valley scoring first and the Aftershocks tying the game in the second half. The Aftershocks then continued to pound the net with shot after shot; however, their goalie made some excellent saves to take the match into over time. At the end of over time the two teams were still tied, and as a result, the Championship would be decided by penalty kicks. The Aftershocks won 2-1 in penalty kicks after four consecutive saves by the Aftershocks goalie.
The girls had been working hard all season and earned their new title as the Bronze division State Champions!
U10 - Lightning win again!
The SRU girls U-10 Lightning won their State Cup Final in a decisive 3-0 victory, defeating TriValley.
Lightning capped off their impressive season by advancing to the Semi finals after a victory in the Quarter finals 3-0. The Semi final match was won in the final 2 minutes, off a corner kick that, after a deflection was volleyed into the back of the net. These girls grew and developed together all season and their State Cup victory was a culmination of their hard work, dedication and talent. A fantastic end to a season which also included winning the 2012 Novato Classic Championship. Congratulations girls! 2012 State Cup Champions, Silver 2 division.

3rd Annual - Girls NIKE College ID Camp - January 26, 2013 - SOLD OUT
In January 2013 Trione Fields was visited by more than 22 college coaches from across the West Coast. These college coaches spent all day Saturday running training sessions and evaluating the 100 players at our camp. Every year the camp has been sold out weeks before it started and this had the college coaches excited. The college coaches have been very impressed with the talent level at the camp and are thrilled at the recruiting opportunities.
On Sunday, the college coaches spent 8 hours evaluating players as they watched the 12 showcase games for the U16, U17 and U18 teams. These games were very high level and the college coaches were enthusiastic about the talent level that the clubs Premier players/teams displayed. Having 30 coaches watch our Santa Rosa United players is a great success. It is a big help to our players during their recruiting and college search process. Accomplishing all of this with no travelling and in our own backyard was even better!
