Avalanche Impressive at Surf Cup
The weekend started with facing the Hawaii State champs Kaoia Rampage. It was a rough and nervous start for Avalanche giving up three goals in the first half. Avalanche could have easily curled up and laid down but these kinds of games display your true character. Avalanche showed their metal and fought back to finish 3-1. In the afternoon game against SoCal Blues-Kale, it was a rematch of the 2006 Irvine Nike Harvest Cup Championship game. Avalanche came out hard and fast for a first minute goal. Avalanche played beautiful possession soccer and limited the Blues to few scoring opportunities. Avalanche added another goal midway through the second half to control the game and finished with a strong 2-0 victory. Now SRU found themselves playing against the defending SoCal State Champions, Slammers of Newport Beach. Again, Avalanche found themselves in a battle with a SoCal powerhouse and again the girls responded. Avalanche battled hard but Slammers found the back of the net in the final few minutes for a 1-0 victory to advance. Had Avalanche won this game they would have advanced to the quarter finals.
SRU AVALANCHE and the parents left the polo grounds in Del Mar earlier than anyone wants to, but Avalanche left Southern California knowing that they can play with anyone, anytime.
